HOUR BUILDING IN UNITED KINGDOM, NOVEMBER 2014

1. DEPARTURE FROM BUDAPEST & ARRIVAL TO LONDON STANSTED

It is november 6th, and I'm driving the car down to Budapest airport (LHBP) from Košice. After 3 hours drive I arrive at the airport at the holiday parking which is really cheap. I walk down to the terminal and I check in my luggage. I pass the security check and I'm heading for some lunch. After lunch I'm waiting for information about gate which I may expect for my flight FR 8446 schedule service from Budapest to London Stansted (EGSS). Finally the gate is displayed on the screen and I pass the customs check thereafter walking directly to the gate. Our airplane is finally taxiing into the stand 38 at LHBP. Boeing 737-800 with registration EI-DWF. After 3 hours of flight and touch down on RWY 22 we are parking at gate 61R. Getting my luggage and buying a train ticket to Harlow town. I'm arriving to Harlow town and takig a local bus to bus station where I'm waiting for another buss to North Weald, my final destination. Special thanks to all bus drivers who ensured that I left the bus at the right bus stops. I just need to walk another 500m to Phoenix Epping hotel. I arrive to the hotel ,check in and go directly to the room for a rest after a long travel.

2. FIRST TIME VISITING THE NORTH WEALD AIRPORT

Paul is picking me up at the hotel on november 7th around 9:30 GMT. We are arriving to the North Weald airport (EGSX) in few minutes (~10 minutes by car). Really serious airport with security gate and fence around the whole airport. I'm looking around and I find many type of plane everywhere I look. Air ambulance operates from here, few private jet fighters are flown from this airport. Also one L29 Dolphin which is made in Czech Republic. A lot of IIWW airplanes and also a lot od moderns GA aircrafts. Mostly Cessna, Cirrus, Piper and few Diamond airplanes. The view is very nice. We park in front of "Squadron" which some kind of cool aeroclub. Paul is explaining to me all the procedures around those busy airspaces around EGSX and all other international airports around (EGLL, EGLC, EGGW, EGSS). It is pretty easy to understand. Nex step is explaining the ATC services (Basic, Traffic, De-confliction). We will be using only the basic service. He continues with explaining about the airplane and the tech log of the plane. We will be flying on Cessna 152 G-LOMN, which was brought to UK few days before I arrived.

3. LET'S GO FLYIN'

Paul is flying with me on my familiarization flight. We depart and head to the west all the way to Bovingdon VOR [BNN], seeing Luton airport north from the track and London scyscrapers south from the track. UK welcomes me with very strong crosswinds (~15kts gusting to 30kts). Fun was that we are flying on the track but the crosswind makes me look forward through the side window. Landing was pretty smooth compared to the wind strength. Next day I'm flying with Simon (Boeing 737 Captain). We are flying a avigation flight to Clacton and Southend with full stop at Noerth Weald. We are abeam Southend aerodrome and we are losing ATC contact. Squawk 7600 and proceeding as cleared. We are finally able to hear Southend radar and we are confirming his messages with squawk ident. Southend radar advises North Weald airport about us coming in for a full stop. After few minutes we are on the ground safely. The radio got overheated by the heating or transponder mounted under the radio, that's why we has the problem with communication. We park the plane, I fill the tech log and my logbook and we have a small debriefing while eating lunch.

4. LONDON AND FLIGHT BACK HOME

It is tuesday (november 11th) I'm planning a trip to London, taking a bus from the hotel to Epping underground station. From Epping "Central" red line to London and leving the train at station "Bank". I'm walking down to the river Thames. I continue to walk along the river all the way to the Big Ben. I decided to make some spotting of London City airport (EGLC). So I'm taking underground to station Tower Hill thereafter a DLR to Beckton park, where you find your self right across the airport with nice view of the apron and all traffic coming in and out of EGLC. After few minutes of spotting I'm travelling back to the hotel. Next morning I'm finishing my packing and waiting for Mr. Cop (Boeing 737 captain). He will take me to Stansted airport. After check-in and security check I'm having lunch and meanwhile charging my notebook. They finally display my gate number. The airplane is taxiing into the stand 61L. Few minutes later I'm boarding on flight FR8445 from Stansted to Budapest. We are flying in Boeing 737-800 registration EI-EKW. Departure runway 22 at Stansted and arrival runway 13R at Budapest airport. The flight is smooth and on time. Next 3 hours in car followed by home sweet home.

TOTAL TIME IN AIR (C152): 5HRS 40MINS

I WOULD LIKE TO THANK TO MY PARENTS, MR. COP (AEROJOB), INSTRUCTORS SIMON AND PAUL.
